The New York Racing Association (NYRA) released its 2016 racing calendar, anchored by a 40-day summer meet at Saratoga. The Grade 1 Whitney will take place on Aug.6, and the 147th edition of the Grade 1 Travers will be held on Aug. 27. The meet will begin on Friday, July 22 and conclude on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 5, with racing conducted six days a week. Tuesdays will be dark.

NYRA’s annual calendar calls for 237 days of live thoroughbred action at Aqueduct Racetrack, Belmont Park, and Saratoga Race Course.

Overall, NYRA has scheduled a total of 237 days of racing at its three tracks in 2016, 14 fewer days (5.5 percent) than what was scheduled in 2015, the organization announced Wednesday, according to the Daily Racing Form.
