A crash Wednesday morning involving a police car in pursuit of a vehicle and a motorist who allegedly failed to yield the right of way, resulted in the motorist being transported to Saratoga Hospital. Officer John Sesselman was traveling eastbound on Lake Avenue shortly after 10:30 a.m. with emergency lights and siren initiated and attempting to conduct a traffic stop on a black sedan he had witnessed committing traffic violations, police said.
As the police car came to the intersection of Benton Drive, a 1992 Buick Century pulled into the path of the police car, according to authorities. Both vehicles sustained significant damage and the driver of the Buick, 97-year-old Ruth Callahan, required extrication from her vehicle by the Saratoga Springs Fire Department.
Callahan was transported to Saratoga Hospital for evaluation due to a general complaint of pain, and was subsequently issued two citations, for failing to yield the right of way to an emergency vehicle at a stop-sign controlled intersection. Officer Sesselman was not injured as a result of the accident.
