City Council to provide updates on VLT Revenue, UDO process; Will discuss support for Laree's Law

The City Council will host a meeting 7 p.m. Tuesday at City Hall where Mayor Joanne Yepsen will provide an update on the Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) – for which a public workshop was held earlier this month. Among the goals of the UDO is to update existing zoning and subdivision regulations to be in conformance with the city’s Comprehensive Plan. Finance Commissioner Michele Madigan will provide an update on VLT Revenue, and Public Safety Commissioner Chris Mathiesen will lead a discussion asking for City Council support for Laree's Law, which is being considered by the NYS Senate and Assembly.

Laree’s Law would allow law enforcement officials to charge a drug dealer with homicide if a person overdoses on heroin or an opiate-controlled substance sold to them by that dealer. Laree’s Law is named after Laree Farrell Lincoln, a Colonie teenager and the daughter of a former Albany police officer, who died of a heroin overdose in 2013. The Assembly Bill is HERE and the Senate Bill is HERE.
