Artists invited to submit works of darkness and light to benefit Code Blue

Spring Street Gallery invites artists, musicians and writers to create work during the month of January on the theme of “Darkness / Light,” and participate in an Opening Reception on Feb. 6. The exhibit and reception will benefit Code Blue Saratoga, which provides temporary unrestricted shelter to individuals who are homeless during periods of hazardous winter weather.  “Darkness / Light” is an open-call show and the Gallery will accept submissions from artists of all backgrounds and styles.

The gallery requests artists create new, original artwork for this exhibit. Dimensions cannot exceed 24" X 36" and artwork must be ready to hang. The theme (darkness / light) may be interpreted in any way. Artwork must be available for sale, with 60 percent of the proceeds to the artist, 20 percent to Spring Street Gallery, and 20 percent to Code Blue. The price of the artwork will be asked when it is dropped off. Registration deadline is Jan. 28. Dropoff dates are Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 30 and 31, noon - 3pm.

A previous open-call exhibit produced by Spring Street Gallery, “The Blue Show,” as presented in January 2015 and brought together over 100 artists and musicians, 500 attendees, and raised thousands of dollars in supplies and funds for Code Blue.

Artists can register to participate in the exhibit by visiting Spring Street Gallery’s website at  There will not be a fee for artists to participate in the show.  Instead, there will be a pay-what-you-can admission charge to attend the Feb. 6 exhibit, during which supplies will also be collected for Code Blue. Suggested supply donations include: new men's underwear sizes M-XXL; Boost, Resource or Ensure meal replacement drinks; Cleaning Supplies; Hand warmers;  Paper Products - plates, cups, bowls, & Plastic flatware.
